Nathan Hammond

Nathan had a Optic Glioma brain tumor that was first found when he was 18 months old. Now he is 29, and has lost most of his vision due to the tumor.

Nathan has loved all items with wheels, but has focused on bicycles for many years. In High School, when asked what profession he wanted to do, it would always be "own my own bicycle shop". It has changed over the years. Now he wants to provide people with disabilities, low income, and children with rebuilt bicycles.

Nathan was involved with USABA (United States Association of Blind Athletes) with training for tandem racing. He trained at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado with a volunteer tandem pilot. Nathan and the pilot trained for the next couple of years. During this time the pilot and some of his friend donated tuition to Barnett Bicycle Institute here in Colorado Springs. Nathan was able to take Bicycle Repair & Overhaul receiving a Certificate of Successful Completion in 2006.

He has worked at 2 large stores building bicycles for them, and helps neighbors with repairs and recycling of bikes.
